A Country Music Hater Falls In Love With Sugarland

I have no idea how it happened. I don’t like country music at all. I went through a country phase about 10 years ago but when I dumped the country music lover I dumped the country music. My father is a huge country music fan and always has the radio tuned into the local country station. I believe this was how it happened. Caught unaware I borrowed the car and didn’t realize what I was listening to. I caught the end of a song called Gotta Be Something More. I thought it was pretty cool and left it at that. Flash forward a year or so and I’m flicking through the TV stations. I stop at a music awards show. Sugarland is singing their single Stay. It’s a guy on guitar and a woman with the twangiest voice I had ever heard. And it was instant love. I went out the next day and bought their album Enjoy the Ride and listened to it on the two hour drive to pick up my husband at the airport.

I really have no idea why I love them so much. Honestly, with their Americana themes and Jennifer’s nasally country voice, I should hate them. But whenever I have a long drive ahead of me especially when I drive once a month to pick up my husband, their cd is the first in my player. It took me about three days to learn the whole thing by heart and I can’t wait for the release of their next offering.

As a result of liking Sugarland so much, I’m actually trying out some other country artists including Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. Little Big Country’s song Boondocks makes me smile and their cd is on my wish list. So I guess I am a former country music hater and I owe it all to Sugarland.
